SOMERS, Wis. --- The No. 1 rated Minnesota State soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Friday as it fell to Central Missouri 3-2 in overtime in the third round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
In the first half the Mavericks had a scoring chance early on as junior
Korey Kronforst had a shot that went off the left post. The Jennies tallied their first goal shortly after that off of a corner kick in the 18th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Just a few minutes later UCM added another goal, this one coming off a header from Megan Woolley to bring the score to 2-0 at the half.
UCM outshot the Mavericks 7-4 in the first half while MSU tallied four corner kicks compared tho the Jennies five.
The Mavericks answered back in the second half with two goals of their own. Kronforst scored off a rebound from sophomore
Kiana Nickel for MSU's first goal in the 51st minute. In the 71st minute sophomore
Dana Savino was awarded a penalty kick after UCM was called for a handball violation. Savino was able to kick it into the right side of the net to even up the score to send the game into overtime.
In overtime period the Jennies were able to score two minutes in as Mikala Modiri scored the game-winning goal.
The Jennies outshot the Mavericks 11-9 in the match and held the slight edge in corner kicks 5-4.
With the loss the Mavericks season comes to an end with to 22-1-0 record. The 22 wins is the most wins in program history for a single season.
