#1 Minnesota State Ready to Host NCAA Central Region Tournament

What's On Tap: No. 1 Minnesota State garnered the NCAA Central Region's top seed and will host the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament on Friday and Sunday in Mankato at The Pitch.

The Mavericks will face the winner of Friday afternoon's match between fourth-seeded Southwest Baptist University and fifth-seeded Winona State University on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Looking Back at Last Week: The Mavericks won their second-straight Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/US Bank Tournament title last week. They defeated Bemidji State and Upper Iowa by scores of 1-0 to advance to the championship game on Sunday. In the championship match the Purple and Gold produced its third shutout of the tournament to defeat the Winona State 1-0.

Sophomore Sidni Trotter was named the NSIC/US Bank Tournament MVP after scoring her first career goal which also was the game-winner in the final match to push the Mavericks past the Warriors. Senior Molly McGough produced three shutouts in the tournament and was named part of the NSIC/US Bank All-Tournament Team. Senior's Breanna Steele and Emily Moris were also named to the NSIC/US Bank Tournament Team as well.

Scouting the Warriors: The Warriors have posted a record of 15-5-1 during the 2014 season. WSU defeated Southwest Minnesota State 1-0 and Minnesota-Duluth 2-0 to advance to the finals of the NSIC/US Bank Tournament finals. In the finals they lost to the Minnesota State 1-0.

Head coach Ali Omar is in his 19th year at the helm of the Warriors's program and owns an overall record of 287-93-24. The Warriors have four players with 10 points or more led by freshman Darian Molter (F, Marshfield, Wis.) who has produced six goals and one assist for 13 points. Senior Shauna Rodman (M, Anoka, Minn.) has produced 11 points scoring four goals and adding three assists. Freshman Rachel Oleson (GK, Brookfield, Wis.) owns a record of 15-5-1 this season. She owns a save percentage of .863 and a goals against average of .66.

WSU has scored 36 goals this season while allowing 14. They are outshooting their opponents 177-103 and have produced 11 shutouts.

Scouting the Bearcats: Southwest Baptist University comes into the weekend with an overall record of 16-5-0. The Bearcats advanced to the finals of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association conference tournament finals losing to the University of Central Missouri 4-1.

The Bearcats are led by head coach Rob Podeyn who has compiled a 54-49-13 record in six seasons at the helm. Junior Karla Jamison (F, Kansas City, Mo.) leads the team in scoring with 36 points and goals scored with 14. Junior Kate Jamison (M, Kansas City, Mo.) has produced eight goals and five assists with 21 points. Junior Cheyenne Forshey (GK, Waynesville, Mo.) has started 17 games in goal owning a record of 14-3-0. She has produced five shutouts and owns a goals against average of .87 and a save percentage of .808.

Program History: The 2014 season marks the 20th year of women's soccer as a varsity sport at Minnesota State. MSU claimed its third-straight NSIC regular-season championship this season after capturing NCC regular-season crowns in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2007.  The Mavericks currently hold a 261-109-27 (.691) all-time record and 79-11-7 (.851) all-time mark in seven seasons in the NSIC. MSU has posted 17 consecutive winning seasons dating back to 1998.
