Falcons Tally First and Hold on for 3-1 Win over 12th-Rated Mavericks

Box Score        Bowling Green, Ohio  ---  Bowling Green scored first and never trailed in holding on to defeat 12th-rated Minnesota State, 3-1, in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest played in Bowling Green Saturday.

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead at 11:27 of the first when a shot from Brett D'Andrea bounced off a leg past Maverick netminder Stephon Williams.

Freshman forward C.J. Franklin knotted the score at 1-1 when his shot from the left face-off dot off the rush beat Tommy Burke at 12:38 of the second for his second goal of the season.

Tyler Spezia collected a loose puck at the side of the net before firing it past Williams at 7:32 of the third period in what would prove to be the game-winning goal. Kevin Dufour added an insurance tally at 18:11 to close out the scoring.

The Mavericks went zero-for-six in power play chances on the night, while BGSU was zero-for-four with the man advantage in the game. Minnesota State held a 27-21 advantage in shots on goal as junior netminder Stephon Williams lost for the first time this year and now stands 5-1-0 in 2014-15.

 Minnesota State, which stands 5-3-0 for the season and is 3-0-0 in WCHA games, continues WCHA action next weekend with Bemidji State visiting Verizon Wireless Center Friday and Saturday.
