ST. CLOUD, Minn. --- The No. 1 Minnesota State women's soccer team defeated St. Cloud State 3-0 Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated on the season.
With the win the Mavericks clinch at least a share of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Regular Season Championship heading into the final week of the season and clinch the No. 1 seed in conference tournament.
Senior
Rebecca Pederson, who started for the injured
Kiana Nickel, stepped up in a big way for the Mavericks scoring two goals. The first goal came at the 21st minute off a pass from junior
Korey Kronforst to put MSU up 1-0.
MSU struck again in the 65th minute off a corner kick. Senior
Emily Moris took three consecutive corner kicks and the Mavericks were finally able to connect as Pederson headed it into the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. For Moris it was her 11th helper of the season.
In the 82nd minute redshirt freshman
Laura Schwickerath scored off a pass from
Caitlin Foley to solidify the win for MSU.
Senior
Molly McGough produced her eighth shutout of the season and made one save on the afternoon. McGough has now tallied 29 career shutouts in NSIC action and needs one more shutout to become the all-time career shutouts leader in the NSIC.
MSU (16-0-0, 13-0-0 NSIC) will be back in action next weekend as they travel Upper Iowa to take on the Peacocks on Friday. They will then finish off the regular season at home on Sunday against Winona State.
