Zach Palmquist scored at 11:40 to tied the game while Minnesota State was on a five-on-three power play. The Mavericks took the lead at 16:27 when freshman forward
Brad McClure scored from in close and it became a 4-2 lead at 18:32 when senior forward
Chase Grant backhanded a pass from
Jordan Nelson past
Kirk Thompson.
The two teams then battled through a scoreless third period.
Junior netminder
Stephon Williams, who entered the game after UNO's second goal, stopped all ten shots he faced to get the win. The Mavericks owned a 34-14 advantage in shots on goal in the game.
Minnesota State, which stands 1-1-0 overall with tonight's loss, went one-for-four in power play chances. UNO were unsuccessful in six man-advantage opportunities.
The Mavericks continue nonconference action next weekend with a home-and-home series with Minnesota Duluth.
