Box Score Fairbanks, Alaska --- The University of Alaska ended Minnesota State's winning ways with the host Nanooks grinding out a 4-2 win over the Mavericks Friday in Fairbanks.
A pair of goals by sophomore forward
Tyler Morney, one at 10:47 of the first and the second at 3:47 of the second, sandwiched around
Matt Leitner's fifth goal of the year at 17:08 of the second made it 2-1 in favor of Alaska.
Colton Beck made it 3-1 when he converted on a pass from
Cody Kunyk at 15:07, but the Mavericks made it a one-goal game at 16:39 when senior forward
Johnny McInnis scored his seventh goal of the year for Minnesota State as netminder
Cole Huggins came off for an extra attacker on the ice. The Nanooks iced the win with Kunyk tallying an empty net goal at 19:23.
Minnesota State outshot Alaska by a 39-18 margin in the game and the Mavericks finished with a zero-for-five mark in terms of power play opportunities.
With the loss MSU, which had crafted a seven-game winning streak entering tonight's contest, falls to 11-8-0 overall and is 9-4-0 WCHA.
The Mavericks and the Nanooks square-off Saturday with a 10:07 pm CST face-off scheduled.
