Eden Prairie, Minn. --- Minnesota State wide receiver
Adam Thielen has signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings.
Thielen signed a contract with the National Football League organization after posting a strong showing at the Vikings' Rookie Minicamp held in Eden Prairie, Minn., last weekend. He becomes the eighth Maverick to sign with the Vikings and first since
Adrian Battles back in 2010.
Thielen, and tackle
Brandon Keith, a four-year NFL veteran who was a seventh-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2008 draft out of Northern Iowa, were the only two out of a total of 34 players at the rookie minicamp to receive a contract offer.
Thielen (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) finished near the top of several career receiving categories after his four years at MSU including finishing second in receiving yards (2,674), second in receptions (192) and third in touchdown catches (19). He also tallied a career-high 167 receiving yards against Southwest Minnesota State (10/13/12). He notched five 100-yard receiving games as a Maverick.
During the 2012 season, Thielen helped MSU to a 13-1 record, as the Mavericks advanced to the NCAA Semi Finals. He led the MSU receiving corps with 74 receptions, for a total of 1,176 yards and eight touchdowns. For his efforts, Thielen was named
NSIC South Division All-NSIC First Team, the
Daktronics Super Region #3 Second Team and
Don Hansen Super Region Three Second Team.
Thielen was awarded the Minnesota State
Male Athletics Medal of Honor award, which goes to the top senior of the year.
