Eriah Hayes in earning a 5-1 win at Minnesota Duluth in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game played in Duluth Saturday night.
The Mavericks jumped out quickly, taking a 3-0 first-period lead. Junior forward
Zach Lehrke scored his sixth goal of the year when he converted on a breakaway attempt at 3:47 to get things going. Freshman forward
Teddy Blueger, who had three points on a goal and an assist in Friday’s 4-2 win over the Bulldogs, got his fifth goal of the year at 16:38 and then senior forward
Eriah Hayes, who also had a goal and two assists in Friday’s win, got his team-leading 14
th goal of the year at 18:47 with a power play marker that was set up on a nice feed from sophomore
Matt Leitner.
The host Bulldogs made it a two-goal game at 16:45 when
Tony Cameranesi scored on the power play.
Hayes then closed out the win with a pair of power play goals in the third period with the first one coming at 4:46 and the other at 12:52. All three of his goals came via the power play and the La Crescent, Minn., native now has ten power play goals and 16 goals in all on the season. He now has two career hat tricks.
Sophomore forward
Matt Leitner had three assists and now has ten goals and 23 assists for 33 points to lead the Mavericks in scoring.
Now 18-9-3 overall on the season and 12-9-1 WCHA, the Mavericks were outshot by the Bulldogs by a 35-28 margin in the game. Freshman netminder Stephon Williams, who stopped 34 Bulldog shots, upped his record to 15-7-2 for the year with tonight's win.
Minnesota State continues league play next Friday and Saturday with a pair of home games with Michigan Tech.
