Box Score Huntsville, Alabama --- Minnesota State continued its winning ways, pulling away from host Alabama-Huntsville with a pair of third-period power play goals to earn a 4-1 victory over the Chargers.
The Mavericks, who have now won seven games in a row and earned its third consecutive conference sweep with tonight's triumph, got on the board at 1:57 of the second period when junior forward
Jean-Paul Lafontaine scored his eight goal of the season. Freshman
Jordan Nelson tallied his fourth goal of the year at 7:34 before UAH got on the board near the end of the period when Brandon Clowes defllected a shot from the point past Stephon Williams at 19:26.
Minnesota State was able to put the game away in the final period, using a pair of power play goals to salt things away. Junior forward
Matt Leitner notched his fourth goal of the season at 14:42 when his shot from the slot found the back of the net and junior forward
Chase Grant capitalized on a rebound opportunity at 15:36 in adding his second marker of 2013-14.
Lafontaine finished with a goal and an assist and senior captain
Johnny McInnis was credited with a pair of assists in the win.
Sophomore netminder
Stephon Williams, who evened his record at 4-4-0 with the win, turned aside 17 shots in the game as the Mavericks outshot the Chargers by a 46-18 margin.
Minnesota State, which has claimed three consecutive WCHA sweeps, ups its record to 11-7-0 overall, 9-3-0 WCHA. UAH falls to 1-17-0 overall, 1-10-0 WCHA
The Mavericks play an exhibition game Tuesday vs. the U.S. National Junior Team at Verizon Wireless Center to close out the first half of the schedule.
