18th-Rated Mavericks Prep for Bowling Green

On Tap:    18th-rated Minnesota State (3-3-0 overall, 1-1-0 WCHA) continues Western Collegiate Hockey Association action this weekend with a pair of games in Mankato vs. Bowling Green (4-2-2, 2-0-0 WCHA). MSU and BGSU play at Verizon Wireless Center (4,832) in Friday (7:37 p.m.) and Saturday (7:07 p.m.) CST.

About the MSU-BGSU Series:  This weekend's meetings between the Mavericks and the Falcons mark the first time the two programs have met in Mankato. In 2008-09, MSU tied (2-2) and won (5-2) in a pair of nonconference games played in Bowling Green in the only previous games between the two schools.

MSU Most Recently:  After falling last Friday in 2013-14 league-opening action by the score of 4-1 at Bemidji State, Minnesota State rebounded for a 4-3 victory in Saturday's rematch.

About the Falcons:  Coming off a weekend in which it claimed a pair of home league wins over Alaska Anchorage (6-1 and 1-0), Bowling Green enters the series vs. Minnesota State with an overall record of 4-2-2 and stand 2-0-0 in WCHA games.

The Falcons are paced offensively by senior forward Bryce Williamson (6-5--11 in eight games) and junior forward Dan DeSalvo (2-8--10 in eight games). Sophomore Tommy Burke stands 2-0-2 with a 1.92 goals against average and a .916 saves percentage, while freshman Tomas Sholl is 2-2-0 with a 2.26 GAA and .902 sv%.

Head coach Chris Bergeron (Miami '93) is in his fourth year at the BGSU helm and owns a 43-75-16 career coaching record.

MSU All-Time:  The Minnesota State men's hockey program, begun in 1969-70, completed its 44th year of competition last year.  

MSU is in its 17th year as a member of NCAA Division I (first DI season was 1997-98) and the Mavericks are in their 15th season as members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Mavericks sport an all-time record of 763-590-134 (.558).
