Mavericks Host Seawolves in WCHA Match-Up

On Tap:    Minnesota State (5-7-0 overall, 3-3-0 WCHA) continues Western Collegiate Hockey Association action this Friday and Saturday with home games vs. Alaska Anchorage (6-4-2, 3-3-2 WCHA). MSU and UAA play at Verizon Wireless Center (4,832) Friday (7:37 p.m.) and Saturday (7:07 p.m.) CST.

About the MSU-UAA Series:  The Mavericks stand 30-21-4 all-time vs. UAA.

MSU Most-Recently:  Minnesota State is coming off a weekend in which it split a pair of league games at Bowling Green. Both games against the Falcons went to overtime with BGSU prevailing 4-3 in the first game and the Mavericks responding with a 3-2 win Saturday.

About the Seawolves:  Alaska Anchorage, which has gone 3-1-2 in its last six games, earned a 3-1 win and a 2-2 tie vs. Michigan Tech in a WCHA series played in Anchorage last weekend.

UAA  is paced offensively by senior forward Jordan Kwas (5-8--13 in 12 games) and junior forward Scott Allen (7-4--11 in 12 games). Senior goaltender Rob Gunderson (4-3-1, 1.88, .921) has started eight of UAA's 12 games.

Head coach Matt Thomas (RIT '98) is in his first year as a college head coach.

MSU All-Time:  The Minnesota State men's hockey program, begun in 1969-70, completed its 44th year of competition last year.  

MSU is in its 17th year as a member of NCAA Division I (first DI season was 1997-98) and the Mavericks are in their 15th season as members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Mavericks sport an all-time record of 765-594-134 (.557).

Passion Play: The Mavericks, who rank 53rd in the nation in power play efficiency (7/57, .123), converted on 3-of-11 power play chances vs. Bowling Green last weekend.

On Tap:  Following the games with Alaska Anchorage, Minnesota State continues league action with Northern Michigan also making the trek for games at Verizon Wireless Center Dec. 6-7.
