Box Score Bemidji, Minn. --- Minnesota State dominated play early, but could not find a way to put the puck in the net and when host Bemidji State scored the game's first goal midway through the second period, the Beavers continued to build the lead before eventually claiming a 4-1 win.

The Mavericks outshot the Beavers 14-4 in the first-period shots on goal and held the territorial advantage in the second until BSU's Bob Kinne's breakaway tally opened the scoring at 8:59 middle frame. It became a 2-0 lead at 11:35 after Matt Hartmann's redirection beat MSU sophomore Stephon Williams. Then, with the Beavers in the midst of a five-on-three power play, defenseman Ruslan Pedan scored at 15:26. The Mavericks finally got on the board before the end of the period when freshman forward Jordan Nelson wired a shot past BSU netminder Andrew Walsh at 16:25 after taking a nice pass from freshman forward Zach Stepan. The goal is the second of the year for Nelson and the assist for Stepan is his first career point with the Mavericks.

Cory Ward's goal at 10:15 of the third period made it 4-1 and closed out the scoring in the contest.

The Mavericks, who outshot the Beavers 28-20 in the game and went zero-for-five in power play chances. For the year Minnesota State has converted on 2-of-27 situations with the man advantage.

With the loss Minnesota State falls to 2-3-0 overall, 0-1-0 WCHA. BSU stands 3-3-1 overall and is 3-0-0 in WCHA games. The two teams close out the WCHA series Saturday with a 7:07 p.m. face-off slated.
