#8 Minnesota State Wraps Up Six-Game Homestand This Weekend

What's on Tap:  Minnesota State (4-1-1, 3-0-0 NSIC) concludes its six-game homestand this weekend beginning Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host Northern State and concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. against MSU-Moorhead.

Recapping Last Weekend's Action:  MSU defeated two NSIC opponents in the first full weekend of conference action. The Mavericks defeated Minnesota, Crookston 3-1 Saturday as three different Mavericks scored their first goal.

MSU capped off  the weekend with a resounding 5-0 victory over Bemidji State. Cassie Weik scored the first two Maverick goals off free kicks from 30 and 40 yards out respectively.

Scouting the Wolves:  Northern State (2-3-1, 1-1-1 NSIC went 1-1 last weekend falling in double overtime to Augustana 2-1, before defeating Wayne State 2-0 on Sunday. The Wolves have been outscored 6-14 in six games and outshot 85-119. Steve Kehm is in his 14th season with NSU posting a 147-88-31 all-time record in the NSIC.

    Senior forward Rachel Goslinga has scored five of the six goals posted this year by the Wolves. She is tied for the conference -lead in points (11) and goals (5), and has an NSIC-high 36 shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Kourtney Woracek has started four games for Northern State posting a 1.87 GAA and .792 save percentage.

Inside the MSU/NSU Series: Minnesota State owns a 5-1-1 all-time record against Northern State.  The lone Wolves win was a 1-0 victory in 2010.  MSU has outscored NSU 12-3 in the seven matches dating back to 2004.

Scouting the Dragons: MSU-Moorhead (3-1-0, 1-0-0) rolls into Mankato on Sunday after defeating Wayne State 4-3 OT then falling to Augustana 2-0.  The Dragons have been outscored 9-15 this season and outshot 38-49 through six matches. Rollie Bulock is in his 13th season coaching MSUM.

    Sophomore forward Erin Nyberg is first on her team and tied-second in the conference with four goals off 17 shots.  Sophomore midfielder Isabel Neyman is second on the squad with two goals. Three different goalkeepers have started for the Dragons with junior Carole Braschayko earning a 1.56 GAA and .762 save pct. in three starts.

Inside the MSU/MSUM Series:  The Mavericks hold a 8-2-0 all-time advantage over the Dragons in a series dating back to 1995. Minnesota State has won seven consecutive matches and outscored MSUM 32-7 in ten matches total with the last loss coming in 1997, 2-1.

Home Sweet Home:  The Mavericks are 3-0-1 at the Pitch at Gage Towers this season. With last Sunday's win over BSU, Minnesota State is unbeaten in its last 17 games at home - dating back to 2010 - which ties a school-record for home unbeaten streak.

Climbing the Ranks: After debuting at #24 in the NSCAA Poll, MSU has moved up for two consecutive weeks to #8.  The Mavericks also moved up to first in the NCAA Division II Central Region rankings.

League Leaders: Minnesota State currently leads in the NSIC in shots (140), points (50), goals (15), and assists (20). Senior Nicole Dooher is tied for the conference lead in assists with three. The Mavericks are also 29th in the nation in scoring average with a 2.5 goals/game mark.
