Box Score Mankato, Minn. --- The Maverick women’s soccer team (4-1-1, 3-0-0 NSIC) tied a school-record for home unbeaten streak at 17 games with a 5-0 win over Bemidji State (3-2-1, 1-1-1 NSIC) on a beautiful Sunday afternoon on the campus of Minnesota State. Senior Cassie Weik scored two goals in the victory avenging the Mavericks’ last loss at home - a 1-0 defeat to the Beavers in 2010 - and keeping MSU perfect in conference play.
Minnesota State took the lead early in the 7th minute when senior midfielder
Cassie Weik fired a laser into the upper left side on a free kick from about 30 yards out.
Weik improved upon her previous performace in the 30th minute when the senior tucked a second free kick just underneath the crossbar from about 40 yards away for her second goal of the match.
The Mavericks controlled the first half outshooting the Beavers 14-2, including a 7-0 on-goal advantage.
MSU picked up where they left off in the second half when sophomore midfielder
Breanna Steele scored the first goal of her career in the 50th minute from in close off an assist by junior forward
Courtney Vallarelli.
In the 69th minute, senior midfielder
Brianne West padded the lead with her first goal of the year as fellow senior forward
Nicole Dooher tallied an assist.
Minnesota State collected its final goal in the 76th minute when freshman forward
Korey Kronforst tallied her fourth goal of the season by lofting a gorgeous header just over the goalkeeper after a great pass from sophomore midfielder
Emily Moris.

Molly McGough made three saves en-route to her second shutout of the season, which moves her into a tie for third in MSU’s record book with 13 career shutouts.
The Mavericks owned a 34-8 shot advantage over the Beavers in the contest.
The Mavericks (4-1-1, 3-0-0 NSIC) will wrap-up a six-game homestand next weekend beginning Saturday at 1 p.m. against the Wolves of Northern State at the Pitch at Gage Towers.
