Anchorage, Alaska --- Minnesota State got a pair of goals from senior forward
Mike Louwerse in downing Alaska Anchorage in a men’s Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest, 3-2, Friday.
Seawolf forward
Matt Bailey won an offensive zone face-off and after taking a pass from
Austin Coldwell, beat a screened
Phil Cook with a wrister over his left shoulder with UAA on the power play at 19:35 of the opening period.
Senior forward
Mike Louwerse potted his second goal of the year in finishing off a two-on-oh chance with
Jean-Paul Lafontaine at 8:06 of the second period and the Mavericks took a 2-1 lead at 11:36 when UAA’s
Rob Gunderson failed to handle a shot from sophomore winger
Johnny McInnis.
UAA’s
Scott Warner knotted the game with a power play goal at 5:36of the third, but Louwerse got the game- winning goal when he tipped the puck past Gunderson at 9:42 after freshman defenseman
Mat Knoll took a shot from the point.
Alaska-Anchorage held a 24-17 advantage in shots on goal in the game with the 17 shots on goal representing a season-low for the Mavericks. Louwerse’s second goal is the third game-winning goal of his career and the Brooklyn Park, Minn., native now has three goals and an assist in the last four games.
Now 11-19-1 overall and 7-15-1 WCHA on the year, the Mavericks close out their two-game league series with UAA Saturday with a 7:07 p.m. (AST) face-off scheduled for Sullivan Arena.
