Box Score Fayette, Iowa --- The top-ranked Minnesota State women’s soccer team finished Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action with a 1-1 tie Sunday afternoon on the road at Upper Iowa.
The Mavericks extended their school-record unbeaten streak to 15 matches and became the first NSIC champion without a conference loss since Winona State in 2008.
The match was scoreless after a strong defensive first half that saw neither team fire a shot on goal.
Minnesota State started to build on its momentum in the second half. Sophomore
Sydney Temple blasted a shot off the cross bar in the 63rd minute, and the Mavericks struck gold four minutes later when fellow sophomore
Emily Moris found herself alone on the right side and slammed home her third goal of the season.
The Peacocks would answer in the 75th minute when
Kali Loescher scored a miraculous goal that saw her tuck a crossing pass over the fingertips of netminder
Molly McGough after a UIU throw in.
MSU earned a 22-8 advantage in shots, including 5-3 in shots on goal.
The Mavericks (15-1-2, 14-0-1 NSIC) host the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Pitch at Gage Towers in the first round of the NSIC tournament.
