Box Score Mankato, Minn..  --- The Minnesota State women’s soccer team earned its first-ever Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference regular-season championship Friday afternoon dropping Winona State 2-0 behind a goal and an assist from junior Tori Meinhardt to snap the Warriors run of eight straight regular-season conference titles.

The victory gives MSU a school-record tying 13th straight victory and extends its unbeaten streak to a new school-record 15 consecutive matches.

Minnesota State pounced on the Warriors early in the 3rd minute when senior Brianne West connected with Meinhardt on a give-and-go in the 3rd minute to give MSU a 1-0 lead.

The Mavericks had multiple opportunites to increase the lead midway through the first half but Winona State goalkeeper Alexandra Vial stopped Meinhardt on two shots from point-blank range.

MSU controlled the action through one frame holding a 8-3 advantage in shots..

In a much more physical second half, Minnesota State built on its lead in the 63rd minute.  The Mavericks used great ball movement from junior Caitlin Graboski and Meinhardt to connect with senior Nicole Dooher on a crossing pass she blasted into the right side for her seventh goal of the season.

Sophomore netminder Molly McGough was tested once as she recorded her 12th shutout of the year. The Mavericks outshot WSU 14-5 in the match.

With the win, the road to the NSIC tournament championship will go through Mankato beginning with the first round Wednesday at 1 p.m.  MSU is unbeaten in 22 consecutive matches at home dating back to 2010.

The Mavericks (15-1-1, 14-0-0 NSIC) will try to finish unbeaten in league play as they head to Fayette, Iowa to take on the Upper Iowa Peacocks Sunday at 1 p.m.
