Blum Wins Three Events as Mavericks Fall to Huskies

Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women’s swimming and diving team suffered a 174-124 loss to St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon in its first home swimming meet in the Highland Pool on the campus of Minnesota State University.
 
Individually, MSU won six races, including three by junior Nicole Blum.  Blum picked up a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:56.14 in addition to winning the 50-yard backstroke in :29.06 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:22.16.
 
Other Maverick winners include senior Megan Pickert who won the 100-yard freestyle in :55.32, senior Stefanie Edwards who won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.51 and senior Emily Timm who won the 200-yard IM in 2:15.43.
 
Several Mavericks recorded top-five finishes including: junior Marissa Reeve (third-place, 1,000-yard freestyle, 11:14.47; third-place, 500-yard freestyle, 5:28.72), senior Jessy Staton (fifth-place, 1,00-yard freestyle, 11:46.77), sophomore Nora Stauber (fourth-place, 200-yard freestyle, 2:03.38; fifth-place, 50-yard freestyle, :25.80; fifth-place, 100-yard freestyle, :56.84), junior Nicole Carlton (fifth-place, 2-00-yard freestyle, 2:05.86), sophomore Nicole Bennett (second-place, 50-yard backstroke, :29.89; fifth-place;100-yard breaststroke, 1:12.56; fourth-place, 200-yard IM, 2:19.72), freshman Taylor Ondracek (fourth-place, 0-yard freestyle, :30.01), sophomore Hannah Walsh (third-place, 50-yard breaststroke, :32.77; fourth-place, 100-yard breaststroke, 1:12.52), junior Amber McHugh (fourth-place, 50-yard breaststroke, :32.88; third-place, 100-yard breaststroke, 1:11.53), Timm (second-place, 100-yard butterfly, 1:00.80), sophomore Alyssa Larson (fifth-place, 100-yard butterfly, 1:02.77), Pickert (second-place, 50-yard freestyle, :24.91), Edwards (fourth-place, 50-yard freestyle, :25.69;  second-place, 100-yard freestyle, :55.65),  freshman Melissa Rundquist (third-place, one-meter dive, 201.40; fourth-place, three-meter dive, 212.50),  junior Tabby Temperly (third-place, 100-yard backstroke, 1:03.50; second-place, 200-yard IM, 2:16.01),  sophomore Rachel Rubatt (fourth-place, 50-yard butterfly, :28.78). 
 
Additionally, MSU finished third and fifth in the 200-yard medley relay with times of 1:53.41 and 1:55.68.  In the 400-yard freestyle, MSU scored points by finishing second (3:47.50) and third (3:48.53).
 
The Mavericks return to the pool next weekend as it travels to UW-Stevens Point Invite.
