Mavericks start 1-0-1 after their first week of games

West, Mavericks Tie the Top-Ranked Lakers 1-1

Mankato, Minn.-- Minnesota State tied #1 Grand Valley State, 1-1, in a hard fought battle at the Pitch at Gage Towers Sunday afternoon.

Brianne West became the game-changer for the Mavericks as she found the back of the net from the top of the box with 7:42 remaining in the second half. West tallied a goal and two assists in the two MSU games played with week.

The first half ended with both teams unable to score as the Mavericks outshot the Lakers 8-7.
With 19:22 remaining in the second half, Kayla Addison netted a ball from a corner kick past MSU freshman goalkeeper Molly McGough to break the 0-0 game.

McGough collected ten saves on the day which included five in the overtime minutes. Grand Valley’s goalkeeper Chelsea Parise had eight saves on the day with five in the second half.

Minnesota State (1-0-1) returns to action next weekend as they head to Denver, Colo., to face Metro State on Friday at 5 p.m.
