Henry Scored twice in MSU's third Northern Sun win

Mankato, Minn.— Minnesota State (5-1-1, 3-0-0 NSIC) stays perfect in the NSIC as it beat Northern State (4-4-1, 1-2-0 NSIC) 5-0 at the Pitch at Gage Towers Saturday afternoon.
 
Leading the offensive charge was MSU forward Brittany Henry, who scored two goals and tallied her third game-winner this season for the Mavericks.
 
Henry’s first goal found the back of the net at 23:36 into the game as she tapped it to the far left corner of the net to put MSU on the board. Junior’s Nicole Dooher and Cassie Weik earned the assists on the Henry goal.
 
Less than nine minutes later, Minnesota State freshman Emily Moris blooped a ball from Brianne West over the NU goalkeeper head from outside the box in the 33rd minute of the first half. The Mavericks put five shots on goal in the first half to the Wolves’ one. In the game MSU put 10 shots on goal to the Northern State’s two.
 
MSU’s Nicole Dooher started the action-packed second half as she put a header past the keeper on a free kick from Cassie Weik to put MSU up 3-0. Fifty-five seconds later, Henry scored her six goal of the season when she put the ball away in the lower right corner of the net. Sophomore Courtney Vallarelli and Junior Brianne West were credited with the assists.
 
The final goal of the game was scored by Vallarelli at 68th minute of the game as West earned her third assist in the game and sixth of the season. The Mavericks scored three goals in four minutes and 17 seconds.
 
MSU goalkeepers Molly McGough and Brittany Cygan each played a half and made one save to earn the split shutout. McGough has started every game in the nets for the Mavericks this season.
 
The Mavericks (5-1-1, 3-0-0 NSIC) get back to action tomorrow as the University of Mary (5-3, 2-1 NSIC) comes to town. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m., at The Pitch at Gage Towers.
