UAA Skates Past Mavericks Saturday, 4-1

Mankato, Minn. -- Alaska Anchorage handed Minnesota State a 4-1 Western Collegiate Hockey Association loss in Mankato Saturday in the final regular-season games for both teams.            

The Seawolves were first on the board with sophomore Daniel Naslund beating MSU netminder Phil Cook at 18:28 of the opening frame.

UAA started off the second period scoring at 5:32 when senior Tommy Grant snapped a shot over MSU Cook's right shoulder, just moments after the first UAA power play of the period ended. MSU saw its first goal of the series at 13:34 when a shot from Eli Zuck redirected off the stick of junior Brett Peterson,past UAA's Chris Kamal. The goal is the first career goal and point for Peterson.

 The third UAA goal of the night came at 14:13 in the third period a deflection by senior Sean Wiles on the power play. The Seawolves finished off scoring for the night with an empty-net goal from behind the left face-off circle by Grant.

The Mavericks outshot the Seawolves 32-27, with Cook stopping 23 UAA shots and Kamal making 31 saves. The two wins by UAA marks the first series sweep by the Seawolves over the Mavericks during MSU's NCAA Division I era.

The Mavericks fall to 14-16-6 for the regular season and await to see where they will be going for the first round of the WCHA Play-Offs, which begin next Friday in a best of three series.
