Minnesota State takes on Alaska Anchorage in a pair of WCHA home contests this Friday and Saturday

Mavericks Host Seawolves in Last Games of 2010-11 Regular Season

On Tap:    Minnesota State (14-14-6 overall, 8-14-4 WCHA) completes conference action with a pair of league home games this weekend vs. Alaska Anchorage (12-17-3 overall, 10-14-2 WCHA). The Mavericks and the Seawolves square-off at Verizon Wireless Center (4,832) Friday (7:37 p.m.) and Saturday (7:07 p.m.).

About the Series:    In a series that dates back to 1982-83, the Mavericks are 33-20-6 all-time vs. the Seawolves. MSU earned a 3-2 win and a 2-2 tie at UAA earlier this year and is 10-2-2 in the last 14 games with the Seawolves. MSU head coach Troy Jutting is 27-10-5 all-time vs. UAA.

MSU Most Recently:   Minnesota State stands 14-14-6 overall and is 8-14-4 WCHA after splitting a home league series with Minnesota Duluth (3-1 win, 6-2 loss) in its last action Feb. 18-19.

Senior defenseman Channing Boe had a goal and an assist, as did sophomore forward Eriah Hayes and junior goaltender Austin Lee had 40 saves as MSU downed the fifth-rated Bulldogs in the first game of the two-game league set.  Hayes scored again in Saturday’s rematch and junior forward Mike Louwerse also scored as the Mavericks fell by a 6-2 margin.

About Alaska Anchorage:  The Seavolves, who are coming off of a nonconference split with Alaska (5-1 loss and 4-1 win), have gone 5-4-0 their last nine contests.  UAA is paced offensively by senior forward Tommy Grant (12-15--27 in 32 GP) and a pair of freshmen forwards in Matt Bailey (10-10---20 in 30 GP) and Jordan Kwas (4-16--20 in 31 GP).  Freshman Rob Gunderson (7-13-2, 2.78, .897) has started 22 of 32 games in the UAA nets.  

Dave Shyiak (Northern Michigan ‘93) his sixth season at the UAA?helm and now is 66-126-24 for his career with the Seawolves.

Student Tickets Pre-Distribution:  MSU student ticket distribution for the Maverick men’s hockey home games with Alaska Anchorage is  scheduled for Wednesday.

Distribution of the 1100 MSU student tickets (valid current Mavcard required) will take place in the Taylor Center Hall of Champions beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Saturday - Game sponsored by Charter  Recognition of MSU senior players.
