St. Cloud, Minn. --- Minnesota State and St. Cloud State fought to a 3-3 overtime tie in a men’s college hockey game in St. Cloud State, Friday.
The Huskies held a 2-1 edge after the first period of action at SCSU’s National Hockey Center with goals by Drew LeBlanc and Jared Festler sandwiching Eli Zuck’s fifth goal of the year. Zuck’s goal was scored at the 10:05 mark after junior forward Adam Mueller came out of the penalty box and dug the puck out from behind the SCSU net.
MSU senior defensemen Kurt Davis and Ben Youds scored goals at 0:35 and 10:06 to give the Mavericks a 3-2 second-period lead, but LeBlanc’s second goal of the game at 13:16 sent the two teams into the locker rooms at the end of the period knotted at 3-3.
The two teams then went toe-to-toe in the third period and the five-minute overtime period with neither team able to score.
The shots were 28-28 in the game and MSU junior forward Michael Dorr contributed three assists. Minnesota State is now 0-1-6 in overtime games on the year.
With tonight’s tie, Minnesota State is now 10-11-6 overall and 4-11-4 WCHA.
The two teams continue action tomorrow night at SCSU’s National Hockey Center with a 7:07 p.m. face-off slated.
