Madison, Wis. --- Minnesota State outshot #9 Wisconsin by a 35-29 margin, but dropped a 2-1 decision to the Badgers in a men’s college hockey game in Madison, Wis., Saturday.
Wisconsin got on the board first with Jordy Murray’s power play tally off a rebound chance in front of Austin Lee at 12:31of the first period in staking the Badgers to a 1-0 lead.
Junior forward Joe Schiller collected his third goal of the year at 3:44 of the second period to tie the score, but the Badgers responded a short time later when Craig Smith scored on a breakaway chance at 4:23 with what proved to be the game-winning goal.
The Mavericks outshot the Badgers by a 16-3 margin in the third period, but could not find a way to solve UW senior Scott Gudmanson.
With tonight’s loss, Minnesota State is now 10-11-5 overall and 4-11-3 WCHA.
MSU continues league road action next Friday and Saturday with a two-game series at St. Cloud State.
