Box Score Mankato, Minn.-- The Minnesota State Mavericks found the back of the net against Southwest Minnesota State beating them 9-0. This was the largest margin of victory for coach Peter McGahey. The last time MSU scored nine goals was in 2003.

With a perfect fall day in the air, the Mavericks struck fast when Nicole Dooher scored her third goal of the season in the first five minutes. Dooher's goal was assisted by Laura Leber. At 27:36, Courtney Vallarelli got tripped in the box which earned a penalty kick. Leber took the kick and pounded it into the back of the net. Shortly after Leber's goal, fellow MSU senior Jessie Audas scored as Vallarelli earned the assist. MSU Freshmen Ashley Sykora scored with five minutes left to play in the half, with the assist going to Sydney Temple. The Audas and Sykora goals mark their second goals on the season. The Mavericks put up an impressive 11 shots on goal in the first half, while the Mustangs earned two.

Adding ten more shots on goal the second half, MSU did plenty of scoring. Leber scored her second goal of the game and second of the season at 64:19. Leber had two goals and a assist on the day, which helps her jump to third on the career goals list at Minnesota State with 36. With little time before the Mavericks struck again, Brittany Henry passed it to Vallarelli in front of the Mustangs goal, helping Vallarelli score her second goal of the season. Vallarelli would end the day with a goal and two assists. Minnesota State freshmen Tori Meinhardt came crashing down into the box putting a header into the back of the SMSU goal at 75:04. This was Meinhardt's first career goal as a Maverick.

In the last five minutes of the game, sophomore forward Brittany Henry scored twice, giving her three goals on the season. Temple and Vallarelli got the assists. Henry had five shots on goal in the match, while the Mavericks had 21 in the game. Southwest Minnesota State failed to record a shot on goal in the second half, keeping them at two on the day. A total of 22 different MSU players entered the game, nine of them were freshmen.

Freshman goaltender Brittany Cygan earned her first career win and shutout as a Maverick. Cygan had two saves on the day, with seven kicked towards her.
