Mavericks Head to U-Mary and Northern State

Mankato, Minn.— The Mavericks will hit the road this weekend, Sept. 24- 26, where they will compete with University of Mary on Friday at 3 p.m. , then travel south to compete with Northern State on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Looking ahead:
After the roadtrip west this weekend the Mavericks head back home Thursday,  Sept. 30, to play against Southwest Minnesota State. The Mavericks will head to play at the University of North Dakota Sunday, Oct. 3, for the Mavericks final nonconference game of the regular season.

Weekend Recap:
The Maverick went 2-0-0 over the weekend, beating St. Cloud State 1-0 and Concordia University 3-1. As the Mavericks had been stuggling to find the net, senior midfielder Jessie Audas came through in the second half scoring the lone and game-winning goal at 56:45. The goal was assisted by sophomore forward Nicole Dooher. Sophomore goalkeeper Chelsey Eley recorded her first shutout, making five saves. On Sunday afternoon, the Mavericks ran over the Golden Bears of Concordia 3-1. The Golden Bears came out fast and strong as they scored at 3:22  on a free kick. The Mavericks came out in the second half with a surge of goals. MSU midfielder Ashley Sykora put the Mavericks on the scoreboard at 65:46, which marks her first goal of the season. Dooher was credited with her third assist of the season. With little time wasted, Dooher netted her first goal of the season at 67:45 to give the Mavericks a 2-1 lead, which would happened to be the game-winner. Sophomore Brittany Henry had three shots on goal in the game and would later score at 76:37, for her first goal of the season. Eley made one save against Concordia. The Mavericks outshot the Golden Bears 11-2 shots on goal.

About University of Mary:
The Marauders come into the match with a 1-4-1 record overall, with a 0-1-1 in the NSIC. U-Mary is 1-0 at home this season with a win over Nebraska-Kearney.The Marauders are coming off a 2-2 tie to Wayne State. Mary is led by freshmen Alex Bachman-Williams who has scored three of its six goals this season, and junior Jessica Curl who has scored twice. Ashley Akers leads the team in the nets with a 1.65 goals against average with a .762 save percentage. U-Mary is coached by Levi Evans, who has been head coach for six seasons.
 
MSU/U-Mary History:
  The Mavericks lead the all-time series 3-0-1 against the Marauders. During the regular season in 2009, MSU beat Mary 2-0, then the two schools tied in the NSIC tournament, which was decided by a shootout that Minnesota State won 3-2. The Mavericks have outscored the Marauders 8-1 in the four contests. MSU beat Mary in 2008, 2-1. The two teams met once before the Mavericks joined the NSIC, the Mavericks proceeded with a 4-0 win in 1996.

About Northern State: The Wolves are 2-2-3 overall this season Northern State is 0-0-2 in the NSIC, with a 1-1 tie with Augustana and 2-2 tie to Wayne State last weekend. The Wolves are led by Maggie Fedor, who has three goals and three assists. Northern State have outscored opponents 14-6 in its first seven games. The Wolves have an impressive 65 shots on goal this season. Dee Woods is in the nets for the Wolves, who owns a 0.87 GAA and .818 save percentage. Nothern State is coached by Steve Kehm, who has coached the Wolves for the past eleven years and owns a record of 134-72-18 at NSU.

MSU/ Northern State History:
Minnesota State owns  the all-time series over Northern State 5-0-1. In 2009, the two teams tied 0-0 after two overtimes. The previous five meeting were owned by the Mavericks, as they outscored NSU 9-2 in the contests.
