Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State Hall of Fame Selection Committee has announced that six individuals have been selected for the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
The committee also announced its “team” inductee and this year’s service and philanthropic award recipients.
The new Hall of Fame members in the student-athlete category include track & field stand-out
Gene Bygd (‘72), multi-sport star
Pat Dunn (‘52), All-American football receiver
Josh Nelsen (‘04) and volleyball setter
Heidi (Schnagl) Ulwelling (‘95).
Slated for induction in the builders category are former athletics administrator
Jim Schaffer and former long-time swim coach
Phil Rhoade.
Selected for induction in the “team” category is the
MSU baseball teams from
1979 and
1980.
The
Jim Schaffer Service Award will be presented to
JoAnn Curtis and
Laura Stevens and this year’s
MSU Athletics Philanthropic Award recipients are
Paul and
Jennipher Mattson.
The date for this year’s induction is Friday, Oct. 8 with the formal induction ceremony taking place at the Hall of Fame Induction Dinner held in the CSU Ballroom. The MSU football team hosts St. Cloud State Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1:00 p.m. in the annual Homecoming Game and the inductees will be introduced at halftime.
