Mavericks End Season With 3-2 Overtime Loss at St. Cloud State

St. Cloud, Minn. --- Minnesota State and St. Cloud State battled into overtime before the Huskies claimed victory with a 3-2 decision to claim the WCHA play-off series in a game played at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud Sunday.

With the win, St. Cloud State wins the first round WCHA series 2-1, effectively ending MSU's season.

It took until the second period before either of the teams were able to score in the game with the Mavericks breaking the seal at 11:14 on a play in which freshman forward Tyler Pitlick had the puck go off of him past SCSU netminder Mike Lee. Garrett Roe managed to tie the game for the Huskies before the end of the period when he finished off a pass from David Eddy at 16:06.

The two teams traded goals in the third period to force overtime with MSU striking first at 10:20 on Jason Wiley's tally off of rebound and SCSU responding with a Garrett Raboin marker at 12:29.

SCSU's Drew LeBlanc ended the game with a shot from the slot that found the back of the net at 3:21 of overtime with the Huskies on the power play.

MSU, which owned a 29-26 advantage in shots on goal, finishes the year with a 16-20-3 record. Seventh-rated St. Cloud State, which advances to the 2010 WCHA Final Five in St. Paul next weekend, is 22-12-5 for the season.
