A four-team collegiate tournament, the
Shillelagh Tournament is in its third year in suburban Chicago after the tournament got its start with a two-year run in Florida as the Lightning College Hockey Classic beginning in 2007. Once moved to Illinois, Notre Dame, the host institution, captured tournament titles in 2008-09 and 2009-10.
Besides Minnesota State and Notre Dame, which square-off at 6:05 p.m. Jan. 1, this year’s other teams include Brown and Boston University and they play in the first game at 3;05 p.m. On Sunday, Jan. 2, MSU plays either Brown or Boston University at 2:05 p.m. with Notre Dame playing either the Bears or the Terriers at 5:05 p.m. All four games are played at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Most Recently: After the first 18 games of 2010-11, Minnesota State stands 6-8-4 overall and is 4-8-2 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action.
The Mavericks, who have won four of their last six games, fell twice at home to #5 North Dakota last weekend.

Eriah Hayes both had a goal and an assist in Friday’s 4-3 lost to UND. After Saturday’s scheduled game was postponed a day due to blizzard conditions, Youds duplicated his offensive effort in a 4-2 loss Sunday. Senior forward
