On Tap:    Minnesota State is scheduled to play in the Shillelagh Tournament Jan. 1 and 2 in its next action.

A four-team collegiate tournament, the Shillelagh Tournament is in its third year in suburban Chicago after the tournament got its start with a two-year run in Florida as the Lightning College Hockey Classic beginning in 2007. Once moved to Illinois, Notre Dame, the host institution, captured tournament titles in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Besides Minnesota State and Notre Dame, which square-off at 6:05 p.m. Jan. 1, this year’s other teams include Brown and Boston University and they play in the first game at 3;05 p.m.  On Sunday, Jan. 2, MSU plays either Brown or Boston University at 2:05 p.m. with Notre Dame playing either the Bears or the Terriers at 5:05 p.m.  All four games are played at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Shillelagh Tournament ticket information is located here.  The Notre Dame men's hockey page is located here.

Most Recently:  After the first 18 games of 2010-11, Minnesota State stands 6-8-4 overall and is 4-8-2 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action.

The Mavericks, who have won four of their last six games, fell twice at home to #5 North Dakota last weekend.

Senior defenseman Ben Youds and sophomore forward Eriah Hayes both had a goal and an assist in Friday’s 4-3 lost to UND.  After Saturday’s scheduled game was postponed a day due to blizzard conditions, Youds duplicated his offensive effort in a 4-2 loss Sunday. Senior forward Rylan Galiardi also scored for the Mavericks in the game.

Radio Broadcasts:  All MSU men’s hockey games are carried live on KTOE•AM 1420 with Mike Sullivan handling the play-by-play duties.

MSU's 12-page press release for this week is located here.

Happy Holidays from the Mavericks!
