Minnesota State Lost to Winona State in the Semifinals of the US/Bank NSIC Tournament

Mavericks Shutout by Warriors 1-0

Box Score Winona, Minn.-- Minnesota State and Winona State met for the second time in Winona this year. The winner of Friday's game was to go to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship on Sunday. Winona State prevailed 1-0 making this the second straight year that the Mavericks would be knocked out of the NSIC tournament by Winona State.
 
In a physical first half, neither team was able to score. Minnesota State committed seven fouls, compared to Winona State with two. MSU pushed three shots on Warrior goalkeeper Anna Belpedio. Winona State failed to put a shot on Minnesota State freshman goalkeeper Brittany Cygan. Both teams created multiple scoring chances, but couldn't capitalize.

In the second half, the momentum shifted to the Warriors, as forward Jennifer Leroo scored her 11th goal when the ball trickled past Brittany Cygan at 69:03 into the game. The lone goal of the game was assisted by Lauren Sturdivant.

Winona State would outshoot the Mavericks 8-7 in the end, with MSU earning five shots on goal, compared to the Warriors with three. There were only three corner kicks in the game with the Mavericks earning only one.

Nicole Dooher
would end the day with two shots on goal for the Mavericks.

Cygan made two saves in the game, both in the second half for the Mavericks.

Minnesota State finishes the season 11-8-1 and 9-5-1 in the NSIC.
