Mavericks & Seawolves Skate to 2-2 Tie Saturday

      Anchorage, Alaska  --- Minnesota State battled back to claim a 2-2 tie in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action at Alaska Anchorage Saturday.
 
MSU took a 1-0 lead at 4:32 of the opening frame on a play where freshman forward Corey Leivermann was credited with a goal after a shot from the point by sophomore Evan Mosey found its way to the front of the UAA crease.
 
The Seawolves responded with a similar goal of their own at 12:21 of the second period after forward Tommy Grant’s shot from in close trickled through the pads of sophomore Phil Cook and the game stood tied at 1-1 after two periods of play.
 
UAA’s Craig Parkinson scored on a scramble at 3:17 of the third period with the Seawolves on the power play, then MSU responded with a power play marker of its own after sophomore forward Eriah Hayes poked in a rebound at 15:00 to knot the game at 2-2.
 
Neither team was able to score in the extra session and that’s how the game ended.
MSU’s Cook had 29 saves, while UAA netminder Rob Gunderson had 21 stops. The Mavericks were one-of-four in power play chances, while the Seawolves converted on one-of-six opportunites with the man advantage. 
 
Sophomore defenseman Evan Mosey had three shots on goal and contributed two assists in the game for the Mavericks.
 
Combined with Friday’s 3-2 win, the Mavericks earned three of four points in league play for the weekend.
 
Now 2-2-4 overall and 2-2-2 in WCHA action, Minnesota State continues league play with a two-game road series at Nebraska Omaha next Friday and Saturday.
