Mavericks Lose Battle Against Winona State

Winona, Minn.-- Minnesota State lost to Winona State 2-1 Sunday in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate game. This marks the Mavericks second-straight loss.

MSU outshot the Warriors 7-3 in the first half. Late in the first half, the Mavericks blasted three shots on goal in the span of one minute but were unable to score. The score was knotted up at zero at the end of the first half.

Minnesota State forward Brittany Henry scored in the 51st minute to put the Mavericks ahead 1-0. Nicole Dooher earned her fifth assist on the Henry goal. Henry now has the team-leading nine goals this season.

Winona State responded in the 72nd minute as Rachel Carr scored, with the assist going to Rachel Neumann. The Warriors took control of the game when Sarah Colleran scored at 80:04, which would end up being the game-winner.

MSU was outshot in the second half 6-4, but outshot Winona State 9-11 on the day.

Maverick Goalkeeper Chelsey Eley made the start, collecting two saves on the day. Eley now is 6-4-1 this season with a 1.42 goals against average.

Minnesota State is 9-6-1 this season and 7-3-1 in the NSIC. MSU will close out its regular season schedule at home against Minnesota Duluth Saturday and Bemidji State Sunday.
