Minnesota State travels to Houghton this weekend for games vs. Michigan Tech

Maverick Skaters To Test Tech This Weekend

On Tap:    Minnesota State (11-13-2 overall, 5-12-1 WCHA) is scheduled for a pair of Western Collegiate Hockey Association road contests this weekend at Michigan Tech (3-20-1 overall, 2-16-0 WCHA) on the docket.  The Mavericks and the Huskies square-off at MTU’s MacInnes Ice Arena (4,128) Friday at 7:07 p.m. and Saturday at 5:07 p.m.. 

About the MSU-MTU Series:
  MSU stands 22-12-3 in the all-time series with Michigan Tech. MSU earned 5-2 and 3-2 victories over MTU in a pair of games played in Mankato Nov. 27-28 and own a four-game scoring streak over the Huskies. Senior forward Zach Harrison had 2-3--5 in the two wins and sophomore goaltender Austin Lee went 2-0-0 and stopped 49 of 53 shots for a .925 saves percentage and a 2.00 goals against average.  MSU’s Troy Jutting owns an all-time head coaching record of 18-9-3 in games with Tech.

Mavericks Most Recently:  Minnesota State stands 11-13-2 overall, 5-12-1 WCHA on the year after losing twice by one goal to the Minnesota-Duluth (2-1 and 4-3 in overtime) in their last outings Jan. 15-16.  MSU, which also lost a pair of games to the University of North Dakota prior to the two games vs. UMD, had gone 7-2-1 in the previous ten games.

11-13-2 overall and 5-12-1 in WCHA games after falling twice at Minnesota-Duluth Jan. 15 and 16 (2-1 and 4-3 losses), Minnesota State resumes WCHA action with a pair of road games at Michigan Tech this Friday and Saturday.

Senior forward Zach Harrison (5-15--20), junior defenseman Ben Youds (1-19--20) and senior forward Jared Stewart (12-8--20) share the team scoring lead.  Sophomore Austin Lee (7-9-0, 2.67, .912), who has started the last three games, has 17 appearances this year.  Lee has combined with freshmen Kevin Murdock (1-3-1, 3.46, .895) and Phil Cook (3-1-1, .952, 1.27) for a team goals against average of 2.58 and a .914 save percentage on the year.
   The Mavericks, who have 705 wins in the 41-year history of the program, have 10 games left in the regular-season schedule and all are of the WCHA variety.  And including this weekend’s games at MTU, five of the games are at home, five are on the road.
