Box Score Mankato, Minn.—The Minnesota State Mavericks defeated the University of Mary in their sixth NSIC match Sunday afternoon, 2-0.
The Mavericks tallied their sixth shutout of the season only allowing two shots on goal in the match.
In the first period the Mavericks came out strong posting three shots on goal. At 18:07 junior forward
Laura Leber (Council Bluffs, Iowa) received a pass from inside the box and drilled one in down the center for the first goal of the match. The assist was made by senior midfielder
Gina Paletta (Omaha, Neb.). A quick two minutes later at 20:19
Leber drills it in from the bottom corner, for the second goal of the match. The assists were made by
Paletta and freshman midfielder
Brianne West (Omaha, Neb.).
Paletta now has five assists on the season and 11 career assists. West tallied her first assist of the season and first career assist.
Leber now has eight goals on the season and 31 career goals.
The Mavericks tallied six shots on goal in the match. In the second period the Mavericks had eight shots and one shot on goal. West had one shot on goal and senior defender
Abby Maxson (Maple Grove, Minn.) had one shot on goal in the match.
Senior goalkeeper
Sheila Reynolds (St. Charles, Illinois) tallied two saves in the match both in the first period. The win earns
Reynolds her sixth shut-out of the season and 17th career shut-out.
Reynolds now has a save percentage of .922 with a record of 6-2-1 for the season and 23-10-3 for her career.
The Mavericks now 7-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the NSIC, will travel to Marshall, Minn. Friday October 9, to battle Southwest Minnesota State at 2:00 p.m.
