Mavericks Slay The Dragons

Box Score Moorhead, Minn. --- The Minnesota State Mavericks demolished the Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons in NSIC action, 8-0 in Moorhead, Minn., Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks came out dominating the field.  MSU posted 13 shots with six on goal in the first period. At 12:59 freshman midfielder Brianne West (Omaha, Neb.) scored the first goal of the match unnassited, earning her first  season/career goal. Following West's lead at 14:49 senior defender Abby Maxson (Maple Grove, Minn.) posted the second goal assisted by West. The goal marks her third season/career goal. At 21:04 junior forward, Laura Leber (Council Bluffs, Iowa) posted her 10th goal of the season assisted by senior midfielder, Gina Paletta (Omaha, Neb.). After the assist Paletta went on to post a goal at 27:30 assisted by Leber. Continuing on with the goal domination at 35:14 Paletta tallied her second goal of the match and ninth on the season. The Mavericks ended the first period 5-0, while the Dragons posted only four shots with two on goal in the first period.

In the second period MSU tallied 14 shots with two on goal. Three minutes into the second period at 48:57 freshman forward Kate Nielson (Urbandale, Iowa) scored the sixth goal for the Mavericks. The assists came from senior defender, Lauren Butters (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Paletta. Following up 30 minutes later at 79:40 Nielson tallied her second goal of the match and fifth goal of the season, assisted by sophomore forward Sarah Schellinger (Sartell, Minn.), her third assist of the season, and senior midfielder, Natalie Bullis (Madison, Wis.) for her second assist of the season. To top the match off at 88:22 senior forward, Kristin Coughlin (Burnsville, Minn.) scored the final goal of the match on a penalty kick.

Senior goalkeeper Sheila Reynolds (St. Charles, Ill.) tallied two saves in the  match playing a total of 45:13. Reynolds now has a save percentage of .871 percent. Freshman goalkeeper Natalie D'Adamio (Littleton, Colo.) earned 44:47 minutes of play in the match and tallied her first four saves of her career.  

The Mavericks now 12-3-1 overall and 8-3-1 in NSIC, travel to Crookston to take on Minnesota Crookston, Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
