Mavericks Devour Wildcats

Box Score     Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State Mavericks defeated the Wayne State Wildcats in their eighth NSIC match, 2-0 in Mankato, Minn., Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks came out strong in the first period posting 12 shots with 8 shots on goal. At 8:31 in the first period junior forward Laura Leber (Council Bluffs, Iowa) drilled one in unassisted for the first goal of the match. The goal is Leber's ninth of the season and 32nd career goal.  Leber posted three shots with two shots on goal. Freshman forward Brittany Henry (Stillwater, Minn.) had three shots and two on goal in the first period. Others posting shots in the first period were senior midfielder Gina Paletta (Omaha, Neb.) and freshman forward Kate Nielsen (Urbandale, Iowa) both having two shots on goal

In the second period the Mavericks tallied 15 shots with six shots on goal. At 88:53 junior forward Ann Kincaid (Bettendorf, Iowa) scored the second goal of the match assisted by Henry and senior midfielder Tayler Vestal (Des Moines, Iowa).  The goal is Kincaid's second of the season and eighth career goal.  The assist for Henry marks her first assist of her career, while the assist for Vestal tallies her first assist of the season and eighth career assist. Others with shots on goal in the second period were; freshman midfielder Brianne West (Omaha, Neb.) with two, freshman midfielder Cassie Weik (Oakdale, Minn.) with one, and senior forward Kristin Coughlin (Burnsville, Minn.) with one.

Senior goalkeeper Sheila Reynolds (St. Charles, Ill.) tallied one save in the  match. Reynolds now has a save percentage of .929 percent with seven shut-outs on the season.  Reynolds is now 9-2-1 on the season and 26-10-4 for her career.

The Mavericks now 9-2-1 overall and 5-2-1 in NSIC, return to the Pitch to host the Augustana Vikings, Sunday, October 18, at 1:00 p.m. The match will be held at The Pitch at Gage Towers.
