Mavericks Begin Western Collegiate Hockey Association Action With Road Series at Minnesota-Duluth This Weekend; Minnesota State Stands 2-0-0 For 2009-10 After Opening With Sweep Over Bowling Green
On Tap: Minnesota State (2-0-0 overall, 0-0-0 WCHA) starts WCHA action this week with a pair of games at Minnesota-Duluth (1-0-0 overall, 0-0-0 WCHA) this weekend. The Mavericks and the Bulldogs play in downtown Duluth at the DECC (5,294) Friday (7:07 p.m.) and Saturday (7:07 p.m.).
About the MSU-UMD Series: The Mavericks trail UMD in the series between the schools by a 12-14-5 margin. The Bulldogs defeated MSU twice last year in Mankato. MSU’s last win in the series was in 2005-06 and since then have gone 0-3-1 in four games played at the DECC.
MSU’s active leading scorer vs. UMD is Rylan Galiardi (1-3--4 in six games).
Most Recently: Minnesota State is 2-0-0 for 2009-10 after a season-opening nonconference home sweep over Bowling Green last weekend. The Mavericks, who prevailed by the scores of 3-2 and 4-1 over the visiting Falcons, are now 22-18-1 all-time in season-openers. And the sweep over BGSU marks MSU’s second consecutive sweep to open a season. The Mavericks bested Bemidji State twice to open the 2008-09 campaign.
