Mankato, Minn. --- Rebekah Kolstad, a 5' 10" forward, will join the Minnesota State women's hockey team after transferring from the University of North Dakota. Kolstad will have two seasons of eligibility with the Mavericks.
All signings and transfers are contingent upon admission to Minnesota State and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
Kolstad, a Mankato native who compiled six goals and seven assists for 13 points in 73 games in two seasons at UND, had six goals and five assists for 11 points in 38 contests during the 2016-17 season with the Fighting Hawks.
"We are excited to have Rebekah at Minnesota State and in our hockey program," said John Harrington, Minnesota State's head coach. "She will bring experience, skill and competitiveness to our team and our game."
Prior to attending North Dakota, Kolstad played for Mankato East High School where she accumulated 233 points over six seasons. In her Cougar career, she was named Big-9 All-Conference four times (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014), AP All-State Honorable Mention twice (2012, 2013) and Minnesota All-State in 2014. A team captain in 2014, Kolstad participated in the 2014 USA Hockey U18 August Festival. She was a three-time recipient of the Distinguished Academic Achievement Award (2012, 2013, 2014) a member of the National Honor Society member and earned the President's Education Awards for Outstanding Academic Excellence in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Kolstad was named to the academic All-State Team in 2013 and won the Spotlight on Scholarship Award in three consecutive years: 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Rebekah is the daughter of Blaine and Teresa Kolstad. Her brother, Isaac, was a three-year member of the Minnesota State football team — playing from 2011-2013.
Kolstad, who will join the Mavericks as a junior, is part of a 2017-18 recruiting class that also includes four incoming freshmen: forward Brittyn Fleming, forward Mariah Gardner, defenseman Jessica Kondas and forward Tristen Truax.
Kolstad and the rest of the 2017-18 recruiting class will join a Maverick team that finished the 2016-17 season with a 7-26-4 record, including a 4-21-3 mark in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Mavericks won their most games in a season since 2013-14 when they won 13 contests.
