Minnesota State Announces Addition of Crosby and Gardner to 2016-17 Roster

The Mavericks now have a total of six commitments coming in for the 2016-17 season

MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State women's hockey coach John Harrington has announced the signing of Chloe Crosby and Demi Gardner to this upcoming season's roster.

The two signees are going to provide depth at the goaltender (Crosby) and forward (Gardner) positions.

Crosby, a native to Lakeville, Minn., will be joining the Minnesota State women's hockey program after graduating from Lakeville South High School this spring.  Crosby is a four-year letterwinner and five-year starter for the Cougars for the varsity hockey team.  A 2015-16 team captain, the goaltender garnered 2015-16 Minnesota State All-State honors and is a four-year All-South Suburban Conference selection.  Other accolades that Crosby received after her senior campaign include the Minnesota State High School League Hobey Baker Award, the 2016 Minnesota State Ms. Hockey Goalie of the Year finalist, St. Paul Pioneer Press Metro Player of the Year finalist and Lakeville South's Hardest Worker.  The 5'5" net minder also holds the record for goals against average and save percentage in both career (1.70 GA/ .933 SV) and single season categories.  She played a key role in helping lead the Cougars to the Girls State High School Tournament her junior and senior seasons. The daughter of Larry and Beth Crosby, Chloe was also team captain of the lacrosse team in 2015-16 and a four-year letterwinner and starter. Her father, Larry, and her cousin, Brush Christensen, played NCAA Division I hockey at Providence College and Alaska Anchorage.  Born on Feb. 23, 1998, Crosby plans on majoring in health sciences once admitted to MSU.

Coach Harrington on Crosby: "Chloe has proven throughout her high school career that she is a big game goaltender.  Very decorated, and deservedly so.  She will provide us with depth at the goaltending position. Along with being a gamer, she is a technically sound goaltender that makes difficult saves look easy with her strong positioning.

Gardner, a 5'9" right-winger ,will be coming to Minnesota State following her high school graduation from Warroad High School.  The Warroad, Minn., native is a five-year letterwinner and four-year starter for the Warriors, helping lead the team to a Section 8A Championship and a third-place finish at the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament in 2016.  Throughout her high school career, Gardner tallied 96 goals and 121 assists for 217 points in 115 game to land inside of the 10-10 all-time scorers at Warroad High School. As a two-time All-State Team selection in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, she was also invited to the National Team Development Camp in 2012, 2013, and 2014. As an eighth grader, she garnered Rookie of the year for the Warriors and helped them to a section championship and third-place finish at the State Tournament.  Gardner is undecided in what she intends to major in when stepping foot on campus.  The daughter to Vince and Donna Gardner, Demi plans on pursuing a career in athletic training after college.  Born  Sept. 25, 1997.

Coach Harrington says "Demi produced consistently in her high school career, and she will bring natural offensive instincts to our team.  She's battled some injuries in her final prep year, but is healthy now and looking to next season. She has good size and a great shot,  and will bring a competitiveness and a desire to succeed to our program."
