Getting to Know...Jarvis Williams

Jarvis Williams, a senior guard from Milwaukee, Wis., is in his first year with the Minnesota State men's basketball program.

The son of Tyrone and Shirlet Williams, Jarvis is currently enrolled in graduate school where he is working on his masters degree in Human Performance. His 14.1 points per game leads the seventh-rated Mavericks and he ranks second on the team in rebounding with a 6.2 rpg mark.

"Jarvis is a very charismatic personality on our team that brings the total effort and intensity everyday," said men's head basketball coach Matt Margenthaler.

Eight Questions with Jarvis Williams

1) What are your expectations for this season?


"To bounce back from last season, to win conference, and to hopefully have a shot at winning the NCAA Division II National Championship."

2) Who are your role models?

"My parents. They engraved a hardworking skill in me and I just want to make them proud as well as the rest of my family."

3) Do you have any pregame superstitions?

"Just relax and think about the challenge at hand."

4) What is your most memorable basketball moment?

"Being named an All-American in junior college."

5) What aspect of your game do you think you've proved on the most throughout your college career?

"Just being an overall team player and going from playing hard to even harder. I'm a guy that wants to do it all both, offensively and defensively."

6) What attached you to Minnesota State when you were in the transfer process?

"Coach Margenthaler really, I just liked his style and what he brought to the table. He was real and showed me the big picture."

7) Do you plan on staying involed with the game of basketball when your playing days are done here at MSU?

"Yes, I will but I don't know where yet. I will be involved in some way."

8) At what age were you first able to dunk?

"I was a sophomore in high school."
