Starkville, Miss.— Minnesota State sophomore catcher
Lindsay Erickson and senior pitcher
Kendra Huettl were named 2012 NFCA All-Americans Wednesday. Erickson was placed on the
NFCA Second Team and Huettl was placed on the
NFCA Third Team.
Erickson and Huettl become the 19
th and 20
th players to earn the all-american honors in program history.
Erickson not only gained all-american honors through the NFCA, she was also named to the 2012 Daktronics Second Team Tuesday evening. This marks the second consecutive season that Erickson has been apart of both the NFCA and Daktronics All-American Teams. Erickson becomes the only MSU player to be named to the Daktronics All-American teams twice and the only player in program history to earn four All-American awards. The sophomore slugger played and started in 57 games this season and finished the season with a .429 batting average with a .772 slugging percentage. The Big Lake, Minn., native was also First Team All-NSIC, First Team All-Central and the NSIC Player of the Year in 2012. Erickson has won the NSIC Player of the Week award two times this year and has earned the award three times in her career. The sophomore led MSU in multiple-hit games (27) and is tied in first for multiple-RBI games (14). In 2012, she broke the school record for doubles in a season with 24, which lands her second on the career doubles chart at MSU with 44.
This award marks Huettl’s second All-American award in her career as in 2011 she was named
Capital One Third Team Academic All-American. Huettl appeared in 38 games this season and started 30 from the circle, working to a 24-4 record and a 1.39 earned run average. Opponents hit .186 against Huettl this season and she struck out 247 batters, while allowing 53 runs, 40 of which are earned. The senior worked 202 innings in 2012, owned a no-hitter and recorded six one-hitters this season. She was named the
NSIC Kelly Award winner (Top Senior Female Student-Athlete). Huettl was the winner of the
MSU Female Athlete Medal of Honor, the
Georgene Brock Award (Outstanding Female Student-Athlete) and was also a Maverick Achievement Award recipient. This season she was named to the
First Team All-NSIC,
First Team All-Central,
NSIC All-Tournament Team and was a member of the
NSIC Gold Glove Team. The North Mankato, Minn, native broke the single-season strikeout record (247) and is first in career strikeouts (772), second career wins (92) and games started (125) at Minnesota State.
Minnesota State finished the 2012 season with a 49-10 record and were the NSIC regular season and postseason champions.
