Spent 1988-1998 as Minnesota State men's director of athletics before assuming Director of Athletics role as school combined men's and women's athletic departments in 1998... Completed career upon retiring in 2002.

During his 14-year tenure, the men's hockey program transitioned from NCAA Division III to Division I and was accepted as members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

In addition to serving a term as chair of the NCAA DII Football Committee, he also served a stint on the NCAA DII hockey championship committee and was a member of the NCAA National Championship Committee. Under Amiot the Minnesota State men's Department of Athletics won the North Central Conference All-Sports Trophy five times and never finished lower than third...Helped oversee construction of Taylor Center and the new Myers Field House and was involved in development of Verizon Wireless Center.
