Head men's track & field coach from 1973-88...Assistant under legendary MSU coach Earl "Bud" Myers for ten years prior to being named head coach...Earned undergraduate degree from Valley City State College while lettering in track and field...Earned Masters from Colorado State...Coached basketball and track at Oak Grove High School in Fargo, N.D., before arriving at MSU...Petersen teams captured five North Central Conference championships including the last two indoor titles of his tenure...Named NCC Coach of the Year in 1987 following MSU's NCC Indoor Championship Season...Peterson-coached teams also captured six Northern Intercollegiate titles - three indoor and three outdoor...Coached 32 All-Americans and two national champions during MSU career.
