An all-conference athlete in three different sports during MSU career...Led conference in batting with .600 average...Led football team in total yards and touchdowns and served as team captain as a senior...MSU's Athlete of the Year in 1954...Basketball team captain in 1955...Played in the major leagues as an outfielder with the Chicago Cubs from the 1957-63 and retired from professional bsaeball following the 1964 season. Saw action in 410 big league games...Ranked third on MSU's Male Athletes of the Century list.
