Mankato, Minn. --- Coming off a season in which it won more games than any other program in the country, the Minnesota State men's hockey team is slated to play 18 home games in 2018-19 as the University formally announced its schedule today.
The Mavericks, who posted a 29-10-1 mark and finished first in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season with a 22-5-1 league mark last year, feature ten home contests prior to the end of December and eight home games in the second half of the 2018-19 schedule.
Following an exhibition game vs. Mount Royal University (Calgary, Alta.) Oct. 6, the Mavericks begin regular-season action with a two-game nonconference home series vs. Boston University Oct. 12-13.
The Mavericks continue nonconference action Oct. 19-20 with a pair of contests at the University of North Dakota Oct. 19-20.
Conference play starts Oct. 26-27 with a home series vs. the University of Alaska and follows with a nonconference home-and-home series with the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis Nov. 2 and Nov. 3 in Mankato. Two home contests vs. Ferris State Nov. 16-17 come prior to road games at Bemidji State Nov. 23-24.
The Mavericks play at Lake Superior State Nov. 30-Dec. 1 and at Bowling Green Dec. 14-15 and participate in the Arizona State Desert Classic Dec. 28-29 (or possibly Dec. 29-30) in closing out the pre-New Year's portion of the schedule.
The Mavericks start the New Year with two home contests vs. Michigan Tech Jan. 4-5. A trip to Big Rapids, Mich., to face Ferris State is slated for the next weekend (Jan. 11-12), Lake Superior State visits Mankato Jan. 18-19 before the Mavericks play their seventh and eighth games for the month of January with a road series at Northern Michigan Jan. 25-26.
Minnesota State begins February with Alabama Huntsville trekking to the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes for games Feb. 1-2. The Mavericks are slated to play at Michigan Tech Feb. 8-9 before a trip north to take on the University of Alaska in Fairbanks Feb. 22-23. Minnesota State closes out the regular season with a home series against Bemidji State March 1-2.
The WCHA first round of best-of-three quarterfinals is scheduled for on-campus sites March 8-10. Semi-final round best-of-three action is set for March 15-17 and the single-game championship ear-marked for March 23.
Including four NCAA tournament appearances, three MacNaughton Cups as WCHA regular-season champions and a pair of Broadmoor Trophies as league post-season champs, Minnesota State has gone 151-72-19 in the last six seasons. The 151 victories are the most by any team in the nation during that span.
The 2018-19 season also marks the 50th season of Minnesota State men's hockey and a special celebration is slated for the opening home series vs. Boston University.
