MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's track and field team hosted the Minnesota State University Open and Multi at Myers Field House Friday and Saturday.

Friday began with the heptathlon events consisting of 60-meter hurdles, long jump, shot put, and high jump.  All three Mavericks participating in the heptathlon, Jack Curtis, Calvin Buesgens, and Logan Bristol performed well enough on the first day to put them in position to make runs at the top.  Saturday saw the final three events take place, the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1000-meter run.  With a final score of 4691, a provisional qualifying mark, Curtis earned third place for the event.  Finishing fourth was Buesgens (4641) and finishing sixth was Bristol (4523), marking an impressive showing for the Mavericks.

Saturday started off with Vance Barnes taking fourth place in the 60-meter dash with a final time of 6.96.  The 200-meter dash saw Minnesota State claim the top four spots led by Tanner Ogren (22.03).  Reid Diamond (22.31), Dalton Bialke (22.41), and Jake Gajewski (22.57) claimed second, third, and fourth place respectively.  Artavius Nixon also finished ninth with a final time of 23.06.  In the 400-meter dash Minnesota State claimed the top five spots led by Morris Dennis (49.96).  Rounding out the top five were John Schuster (50.17), Bialke (50.25), Parker Gloudemans (50.30), and Isaiah Pitchford (50.49).

Continuing the trend of success on the track, Derek Finsterwalder claimed fourth place in the 800-meter run with a final time of 1:57.40.  The 1000-meter run saw Austin Yardley (2:34.84) finish second and Isaiah Rabata (2:35.23) finish third.

The field events once again were highlighted by some phenomenal performances from the Mavericks.  Alex Campbell took first place in the long jump with a best jump of 22'8".  Elijah Calderon-Pitchford (21'10.25") finished second in the long jump and Jeff DeCock (20'9.75") fourth.  In the pole vault Mitchell Valli tied a season best jump of 16'4.75" to finish tied for second.  Campbell continued his impressive day in the high jump with a provisional qualifying, and personal best tying jump of 6'8.75" earning him first in the event.

Sam Udermann made a career best throw in the weight throw with a best distance of 57'1", good enough for first place on the day as well as meeting the provisional qualifying standards.  Bryan Caffin finished sixth in the weight throw with a best distance of 53'8.50".  In the shot put Caffin earned second place with a final throw of 48'9".
