Quintet of Mavericks in First-Day Action of NCAA DII Indoor Championships

Senior Faryn Wirkus earned All-America honors with her fourth-place finish in the pole vault at the 2016 NCAA DII national championships taking place in Pittsburg, Kan.

Pittsburg, Kan. --- A quintet of Minnesota State women's track and field team members were in action at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships taking place in Pittsburg, Kan., today.

Senior pole vaulter Faryn Wirkus, who made her second appearance at the national indoor championship, earned All-America honors in the pole vault with her 4.01-meter effort placing her in a tie for fourth. Having finished seventh in the event at the 2013 national championships, the Edgar, Wis., native is now a two-time indoor All-American in the event.

Sophomore Altoniece Williams turned in the second-fastest time in the 60m hurdles in qualifying for tomorrow's finals. Brooke Foreman, a senior from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, placed 16th preliminary action of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.65.

Making her first appearance at the NCAA Division II national indoor meet, junior Haley Kruger clocked in at 2:09.94, which was the sixth-fastest time in the 800m (and a school record) in qualifying for tomorrow's finals.

Freshman Afure Adah posted a time of 25.03 in the 200m, which was the 17th-fastest time in the prelims. The Moorhead, Minn., native was making her first appearance at the national indoor meet.

Junior Ariel Thomas competes tomorrow in the triple jump, joining Williams and Kruger in finals action.
