Mankato, Minn. --- Kevin Buisman, Minnesota State Director of Athletics, announced that the department has received another gift as part of a private donor campaign for Maverick Hockey.
Buisman noted that
Paul and
Diane Hanson have pledged $15,000 and indicated that their contribution will help provide furnishings and equipment for new team spaces at the Verizon Wireless Center.
"We are fortunate to have alums like Paul and Diane getting behind this effort. Paul was an avid fan of Coach Brose's program during his time at school in the early 80's and more recently has made a conscientious commitment to reengage the University and our hockey program. We appreciate this generosity and his service as member of our University Foundation Board," said Buisman.
Paul Hanson, an '84 MSU grad, hopes his gift will inspire others. "The program has continued to evolve since my days as a student when it was a very strong NCAA Division II program. Now playing as a top 20 NCAA Division I program, we feel it is vital that the Mavericks have a facility to call their home that is competitive with other programs across the country. Diane and I feel that now is the time to for us to step up and support this critical off ice project to support the on ice excellence we've enjoyed over the past several years. We urge our fellow Maverick friends and supporters to join us!"
"Paul and his family are amongst are very best supporters," said
Mike Hastings, head coach of the Minnesota State men's hockey program. "Not only do they travel down from the Twin Cities to be regulars at our home games, they have followed us on the road to places like Bemidji, Grand Rapids, and Houghton. We appreciate their support at these rinks and to the financial commitment they have now made which will help to ensure the new home of Maverick hockey is on par with what they have seen elsewhere."
