Mavericks Kick Off California Trip in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, Calif. --- The Minnesota State women's track and field team took to the west coast to compete in multiple meets, beginning with the California State University, Los Angeles Twilight Open.

The Mavericks put in fantastic performances all-around headlined once again by the pole vaulters. Senior Bryanna Sudman (Eden Prairie, Minn) finished the evening tied for fifth in the nation with her second-place vault of 12'7.5". Junior Faryn Wirkus (Edgar, Wis.) followed in sixth with her top mark of 12'1.5" moving her into a tie of 14th in the country.

Senior Anna Veroeven (North Mankato, Minn.) joined in the action with a provisional mark of her own in the triple jump. The school-record holder finished fifth overall with a lunge of 39'2.5" which currently ranks her tied for 13th in Division II. Sophomore Brieanna Puckett (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) finished second in the long jump at 18'10.75".

Puckett would also take home a fifth-place finish in the 200-meters with a final time of 24.73. Senior Sid'Reshia Floyd (New Hope, Minn.) set a new personal-record in the 100-meter dash with a 12.15 posting, finishing sixth. Maddi Sjelin (St. Michael, Minn.) grabbed a new personal-best of her own in the 800-meters in her fifth-place posting of 2:15.81.

Floyd and Puckett, along with Karlona Gregory (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Mackenzie Beals (Marshalltown, Iowa) cruised to a third-place finish in the 4x100 relay with a final time of 47.12.

The Mavericks will keep their trip rolling as they are set to compete in the annual Mt. SAC Relays tomorrow, in Walnut, Calif.
