New Orleans, La. --- With just a few days of preparation remaining for the national championships, the Minnesota State men's track and field team secured a few more honors to attach with their impressive season courtesy of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association.
National record-holder Myles Hunter was named the Central Region Track Athlete of the Year. Previously, Hunter was named the National Athlete of the Week twice to go along with four conference athlete of the week awards. Earlier this season, the sophomore broke the Division II 60-meter hurdles record by bounding to a final time of 7.64.
For the second-straight year, head coach Jim Dilling was named the Central Region Head Coach of the Year. The Dilling-led Mavericks brought home their fourth-straight NSIC Indoor Championship in February and are sending four student-athletes to the national championships this weekend.
For the first time in his Minnesota State career, assistant coach Chris Parno was named the Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year. Parno is the point man with the sprints and hurdles events which saw three school-records fall in addition to Hunter's national posting.
The Mavericks are set to head down to Birmingham, Ala. this weekend as the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships are set to begin March 14.
